Sustainable packaging
Our work continues to reduce the consumption of plastics and replace fossil fuel materials with plant-based materials or those made of recyclable materials.
Less impact on the environment
One example of this is that since 2022, the plastic film used in the industry has come to be a composite material containing 50% recycled plastic, guaranteeing its functionality but causing less impact on the environment.
More renewable packaging
The milk industry has changed the technology in the filling lines of COVAP milk, working with more renewable packaging, reducing the use of materials from fossil sources and increasing materials of plant-based origin in their composition. 89% of the composition of the new Edge carton comes from renewable sources, compared to the 64.8% of the previous one.
Certification of waste to resources: zero waste
In 2022, we became the first agri-food cooperative to obtain the "From waste to resources: Zero waste" stamp, awarded by SAICA Natur. The alliance has made it possible to implement circularity models in the different flows of waste from the four industrial plants: milk, meat processing center, animal feed and Ibérico pork products. The joint management has allowed us to guarantee and certify the net reuse of 96.42% of the total volume of waste with reuse and recycling operations or energy production, generating new resources for the local and national economy. The certification is backed by the TÜV SÜD certifying authority, which has verified that all the waste generated in the facilities achieves a percentage of net reuse equal to or higher than 95%. This certification has allowed us to complete the 360º model, with the circular flow of waste and byproducts.
